KOMSOMOLSKAYA II, 2019
Metro station Komsomolskaya in Moscow, Russia opened in 1952, and is widely regarded as the most iconic station of the Moscow Metro. Designed in the grand Stalinist Baroque and Empire style, it features a soaring yellow vaulted ceiling adorned with eight large smalt mosaic panels depicting Russian military heroes and historic victories. The spacious hall is lined with 68 white marble columns, illuminated by magnificent chandeliers and richly decorated with Baroque-inspired ornamentation. Above ground, the station is distinguished by its imposing portico with stylized Corinthian columns and a tall spire crowned by a large star. In recognition of its outstanding architectural design, Komsomolskaya was awarded the Grand Prix at Expo 58 in Brussels.
