Metro station Ploshchad Ilyicha in Moscow, Russia opened in 1979, and is named after Ilyich Square, a reference to Vladimir Ilyich Lenin. Designed in the restrained architectural style of the late Soviet period, the station is distinguished by a large bas-relief of Lenin at the end of the central hall. Created by the People’s Artist of the USSR, Nikolai Tomsky, this monumental artwork remains the station’s most prominent architectural feature.
